Even though my last name is “Irani” and my family has Persian roots, I am culturally Indian and American.

I was born in Queens, NY, but lived in Mumbai, India until age 14 when I moved back to New York. As a result, I speak Hindi, English (both Indian English and American English), and Gujarati. I also have advance language skills in Spanish and Marathi, and I am conversational in American Sign Language. Currently, I am learning Dutch. I can tell you, as a linguist, that languages are more alike than different, and I believe, as humans, that we have more in common with each other than not.
